What is the Teaching Method for Our Power BI Courses?
The teaching methodology for our Power BI courses is Instructor-led training (ILT), which means that our courses are engaging, immersive, hands-on and interactive. With this participatory learning method your staff will retain information better, whether they're studying Power BI subjects in-person or via live virtual classroom.
And, whilst we're happy to provide lectures, show-and-tells and drop-in surgeries, the ILT approach is by far the best way to bring your Power BI know-how to life in a small-class-size setting.
How Long are our Power BI Courses?
Usual teaching hours for our Power BI courses are 9.30AM to 4.30PM with a lunch hour and short breaks morning and afternoon. This timetable is fairly standard across the industry and gives six hours of hands-on Power BI learning, which is an optimal day's training for comfortably absorbing and retaining information and completing practice exercises.

Power BI Terminology in Layman's Terms
1) Power BI Slicers provide a means of quickly filtering portions of your data model with the click of a button. In Power BI Slicers provide a really simple way of sculpting your visualisations. The two main types of slicer tools are dropdown slicers and slider slicers.
2) In Power BI, Power Query enables you to "get" (or connect to) data from external data sources and then sculpt and clean (i.e. "transform") that data. Your edited data can then be brought into Power BI to produce pivots, reports and charts. Or, to put it another way, the Power Query Editor is an ETL data integration tool which means that it enables you to Extract external data from multiple sources and then Transform that data before Loading it into a data warehouse (in this instance Power BI) for analysis and reporting.
3) Simply put, DAX measures are what you might refer to as functions and/or formulas in other applications such as Excel. The DAX formula language is more specialised than this suggests though and it provides measures for working with relational data and aggregating data from multiple sources. As a formula language, DAX consists of all the components of a formula including its functions, constants and operators.
4) There are over 250 DAX measures available to use in your DAX formulas in Power BI. For a comprehensive reference list for DAX measures by category see the Microsoft article here: DAX function reference.
5) Power BI Workspaces provide a space for collaboration with your colleagues for working upon dashboards, reports and data models. Workspace members will usually need a Power BI Premium Per User or Power BI Professional license. Fabric Free license holders can't share workspaces but workspaces can be shared with them by Premium and Pro license holders. For external users you can invite them as guest users of the workspace through the Azure portal.
6) Whereas the standard Power BI Gateway is for working in a collaborative environment, a Power BI Personal Gateway can be installed on your own PC or laptop for personal/ individual use in an unshared, closed environment. Note that with a Personal Gateway you can share read-only reports etc., but you cannot collaborate. You can only have a maximum of one Personal Gateway and one on-premise standard gateway running on the same computer at any one time.
