When implementing SharePoint within your organisation, planning is the key to success.

With SharePoint Online running straight out of the Microsoft 365 box (so to speak), its easy to get ahead of yourself. So, let's take a quick moment to look at some of the fundamental questions that you really should be asking before you get started.

We have put together a short checklist of SharePoint implementation considerations that you need to think about in order to get SharePoint inline with your business processes and day-to-day activities.

So, here are ten simple questions to consider as a SharePoint stakeholder:

How do I Implement SharePoint?

If you have been asking yourself how to go about your SharePoint Implementation then these are the questions that you need to ask yourself:

1. SharePoint Strategy: Do you have a published SharePoint strategy in place?
   
   
2. SharePoint Governance: Do you have published SharePoint governance policies in place, including considerations such as best practice, compliance and branding?
   
   
3. SharePoint Information Management: Do you have a clear information plan in place, for things like hubs, communities, libraries, templates and workflows?
   
   
4. SharePoint Adoption: Do you have a clear roadmap for promoting and championing SharePoint adoption and awareness within your organisation?
   
   
5. SharePoint Migration: If you intend to migrate from a SharePoint on-premise architecture (or another platform) to a SharePoint Online architecture, do you have a migration plan and data mapping in place?
   
   
6. SharePoint Integration: Do you understand how SharePoint integrates with Microsoft Teams and the wider Microsoft 365 suite, what the implications are and what benefits and capabilities these resources might bring to your organisation, your workforce and your customers?
   
   
7. SharePoint Users: Have you clearly identified your users' roles, what their needs, working practices and daily tasks are and what content they need the most?
   
   
8. SharePoint Site Owners: Have you identified the relevant site owners (AKA administrators) for each community of users and each collection of sites and what their roles and responsibilities are?
   
   
9. SharePoint Architecture: Have you defined your SharePoint architecture (taking into account the above) including portals, hubs, sites, pages, search, taxonomy and metadata?
   
   
10. SharePoint Forward Planning: Have you planned for the evolution of your SharePoint architecture as your business changes, grows and pivots?
