Power Query & Power Pivot Microsoft Excel Training Course
This one-day Excel Power Query course provides everything you need to get started using Microsoft Excel to reveal 'deep dive' data insights for larger datasets.
You will learn data modelling with Power Query alongside Pivot Tables, Power Pivot and Measures, and discover how to harness powerful data analysis techniques (and gain meaningful insights) with Excel when working with larger datasets from multiple external sources.
The course places the Power Query ETL tool into its proper context within the Excel data analysis lifecycle and provides the breadth of knowledge needed to get the best insights possible from your data.
Our private Excel courses cost £450.00 plus VAT p/d inclusive up to 3 learners. Add more people at £50.00 plus VAT p/d up to a limit of 10. Trainer mileage costs apply for on-site courses.
Our closed, private Microsoft Excel courses offer a flexible teaching approach and your trainer will call you before the event to discuss your training needs. You can also combine this Power Query course with Intermediate and Advanced Excel training courses to create a blended training programme of up to four days in duration.
With our Excel Power Query course you can opt to have one of our Excel instructors come out to your premises on-site or we can deliver the course Online as live virtual classroom.
Excel Power Query Training Course Prerequisites

Learners should already be confident Excel users with either advanced knowledge or a high level of intermediate knowledge before undertaking this Power Query course. You will, however, need no prior experience working with Pivot Tables, Power Query, Power Pivot or Power Pivot Measures.
Where Next?: Beyond Excel Power Query
If you want to extend upon your Power Query knowledge, then the logical next step would be to look at Power BI. Whilst PQ is capable of handling large datasets, limitations can arise when attempting to visualise these in Excel dashboards. That's the point at which you may want to think about moving over to Power BI for richer visualisations and insights for bigger datasets.
Microsoft Excel Power Query can be taught on the following versions: Excel 365, 2024, 2021 and 2019. Power Query does go back as far as Excel 2010 but we would recommend a more up-to-date edition.

Our trainers know that helping students to work more effectively isn't just a business goal, it's also empowering. They aren't just educators, they're also software champions who promote enthusiastic adoption of Excel amongst their trainees. Before the start date they'll discuss your team's training goals with you, whether they're setting off as novice, intermediate or advanced users.

Power Pivot and Power Query Terminology in Layman's Terms
1) Slicers provide a means of quickly filtering portions of Pivot Table data at the click of a button. They give you more control and precision than Excel filters and can be connected to multiple pivot tables and charts.
2) Excel Data Models allow you to pull in data from multiple tables, essentially enabling you to work with relational data. With Excel Data Models you have the power to work with relational data within the confines of a workbook. Historically this would have required building a whole separate database.
3) In Microsoft Excel Power Query enables you to "get" (or connect to) data from external data sources and then sculpt and clean (i.e. "transform") that data. Your edited data can then be brought into Excel to produce reports and charts. Or, to put it another way, the Power Query addon is an ETL integration tool which means that it enables you to Extract external data from multiple sources and then Transform that data before Loading it into a data warehouse (in this instance Excel) for analysis and reporting.
4) There are a number of methods for customising query parameters in Excel. With Power Query you can parameterise your data by using the Power Query Editor to define your Dynamic Parameter Tables. This allows you to set parameterised controls upon things such as data sources, filters and even usage. As such, you get a degree of granular control from within Excel that you could otherwise only expect from apps and languages such as Microsoft Query, SQL and Power BI.
5) Power Pivot is an Excel add-on which can import data from multiple sources in really significant volumes of rows (millions rather than thousands). It enables you to create relationships between disparate data sources and combine them in one Excel Workbook or Worksheet. The data can then be manipulated with formulas to produce Pivot Tables and Charts.
6) With Power Pivot's Diagram View you can administrate the relational connections between the data tables that you've imported into your Excel Workbook.
7) Power Pivot Measures are simply what you would usually refer to as functions within the rest of Excel (SUM, COUNT, AVERAGE, VLOOKUP etc.). They can also be some of the more powerful formulas that you get with the DAX formulas language and its family of statistical and filtering functions for working with relational data.
